Product Engineering & Design

Prototyping, in its simplest form, means creating a "test version" of your product. At KAI Engineering, we leverage over 200 years of combined, U.S.-based product engineering expertise to ensure your prototype meets—and exceeds—your goals.

Our advanced product development facility handles nearly every stage of the prototyping process in-house, allowing us to provide rapid prototyping and comprehensive end-to-end solutions.

Areas of Expertise

What could be some of the goals of a prototype?

  • Testing and/or validating your idea.
  • Bringing that idea to life for the purpose of presenting it to others.
  • Reducing manufacturing costs.
  • Creating options and/or expansion products.

Product development often involves challenges, but utilizing prototypes can help minimize potential pitfalls and streamline the process. Prototypes generally fall into two categories: low-fidelity and high-fidelity, each reflecting how closely they resemble the final product.

Low-Fidelity Prototype

Typically serves as a simplified version of the concept. It might be smaller in scale, use less expensive materials, or have limited functionality, making it ideal for quickly testing and validating basic concepts.

High-Fidelity Prototype

Closely represents the final product, featuring detailed design elements, full functionality, and higher-quality materials.
